my first assignment

sweet kristina sent me a dream to interpret! i, of course, became kind of distracted from this blog for a few days, but here i am with a response!

in her dream, the current girlfriend (we'll call her F) of kristina's ex (we'll call him N) meets up with kristina in a mall parking lot. they hug and kiss, then F tells kristina that N is in trouble and they drive to a dingy single-story house so kristina can coax him from the room he's locked himself in. N won't talk to to F and has cuts on his arms.

inside the house, kristina finds herself in a hallway of closed doors. she tries a few before sensing the correct door. she enters and N looks how he did when they were dating and is wearing kristina's favorite outfit of his from their relationship.

here's the climax of the dream in kristina's words:
i talk to him about faith and what shes trying to do by having me there and i go on asking him what the problem is. i rub his cuts to let him know i know they're there. i do things to him i would've done when we were dating like stroking his face and rubbing his back. after a few minutes he starts to squeeze my hand back and looks at me. he starts talking. he tells me he finds no meaning in life and doesn't understand why he's alive..but can't kill himself because he doesn't want to hurt the people he loves. he walks around the room and paces. there is a noose hanging from the ceiling and he taps it so it swings back and forth. i tell him he can't treat his girlfriend the way he has been and reference my own experience as his girlfriend. faith knocks on the door and comes in with urgency. its like the hallway has tons of energy and the room we're in is solemn. i act as a mediator between them while there is some arguing going on between them. in the dream i remember feeling emotional about both of them. wanting them both to be happy, and simultaneously being attracted to both of them. when i was feeling all of that at once i woke up..it seemed out of confusion.

holiday mantis says:

dreams usually aren't as straightforward as they seem. this probably had little to do with N and F, and more to do with some other relationship/situation that's giving you trouble right now. our brain uses comfortable, familiar images to relay what our subconscious wants to tell us.

i've read that when someone of the opposite sex takes center stage in a dream, that person usually represents the dreamer. so maybe you've been closing yourself off to people that care about you? maybe you're mistreating someone you're involved with?

the cuts on N's arms is significant. cuts, and blood in particular, are thought to represent emotional wounds. rubbing them, to me, seems like you're working to soothe those wounds. that's good!!

the presence of F and N in the dream probably has something to do with coming into contact with one or both of them sometime close to dreaming the dream. and the attraction to them and wanting happiness for both of them is probably valid and true.

buildings in dreams are always important because they usually are representative of the dreamer's self. so this is a little, dark and dingy house. you're feeling small? my dreams are pretty much always dark, so i'm not going to dwell on what the darkness means.

i think a lot of this you have to figure out for yourself, but the hallway having a lot of energy, i'd guess, would be good. it means you're feeling powerful right down to your core.

anyway, those are the symbols that seemed most important to me. i think, even though it seems like a sad and traumatic dream, it has some positive implications.

keep 'em comin'!

love,
holiday mantis
